Make and hope: the great terroirs of the Rhône, beneath a vault of glass
House founded in 1808

Fac et spera — fais et espère
Behind an elegant glass front, at the heart of Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse, the Fac & Spera cellar bears the signature of Maison M. Chapoutier, a Rhône Valley winegrower since 1808. Its name takes up the family's Latin motto, « Fac et spera » – make and hope – which speaks at once of patience before a sovereign nature and of the winegrower's daring. More than two centuries of history, rooted in Tain-l'Hermitage, can be sensed in every bottle on display here.
The house has established itself as one of the benchmarks for the wines of the Northern Rhône, a pioneer of biodynamic viticulture adopted as early as the start of the 1990s to reveal the pure essence of its terroirs. Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Saint-Joseph: the great Rhône appellations unfold here, accompanied by a selection open to other estates and regions, chosen for their character and their immediate pleasure.
At Les Halles, the cellar is experienced as a luminous tasting cabinet where one comes seeking advice as much as a bottle. A sommelière guides connoisseurs and the curious alike, pairing wines with the dishes of the neighbouring stalls and taking visitors on a journey between the crus of the Rhône, a few gems from elsewhere and a fine range of spirits. A setting worthy of Lyon's most emblematic gastronomic market.
